Who holds judiciary to account when they get it wrong? | Irish Examiner

Who holds judiciary to account when they get it wrong? | Irish Examiner: Judges, overwhelmingly originating from a very narrow social background and expressing an equally narrow perception of wider society, need to know they are not above judgment themselves.

They should not — ever — be subject to political pressure, but must be accountable to disciplinary mechanisms within their own profession.

Remember how devastating the Ryan Report was - this report outlined the horrors children had to endure in State institutions managed by the Catholic Church. Imagine how more horrifying that report would have been if the Irish judiciary's role in the abuse had been looked into! The judiciary consigned thousands of children to incarceration in institutions they knew were abusive without batting an eyelid or even consulting the Irish Constitution.
