Former DPP Barnes raised Bailey case issues in 'interests of justice' - Analysis, Opinion - Independent.ie

Former DPP Barnes raised Bailey case issues in 'interests of justice' - Analysis, Opinion - Independent.ie: "Last October, Barnes, who had been in retirement for many years, contacted his former colleagues in the DPP's office and recounted the following story: when Barnes was DPP in 1998, he received a telephone call from Malachy Boohig, who was state solicitor in west Cork.

Boohig told Barnes that he had attended a meeting with three senior gardai about the Toscan Du Plantier murder. The gardai outlined the pressure they were under to secure a charge in the murder investigation. After the meeting, one of the gardai followed Boohig out of the room. He asked Boohig if he had been at school with John O'Donoghue, then Justice Minister. He then asked the solicitor to ask the minister to use his influence to help secure a prosecution. Boohig contacted Barnes to let him know about this approach and he later went to Dublin to discuss it with Barnes in person."?
